NSW Premier’s Chinese Community Service Awards

The Annual NSW Premier’s Chinese Community Service Awards were established in recognition of the long-standing presence of the Chinese community in NSW. Here since the earliest days of the colony of New South Wales and now one of the largest and fastest growing groups in Australia, the Chinese community has long been active in philanthropic and voluntary community activities.

Awarded to those who have demonstrated active and distinguished service to the community, the awards acknowledge the social value of voluntary work within the Chinese community.

The awards are presented each year by the Premier of NSW during the Lunar New Year Celebrations. Winners receive a certificate and official citation. Members of any of the diverse Chinese communities in NSW are eligible for nomination under the following four categories.

Victor Chang Community Service Award

This award honours excellence in community citizenship. The award will be given to an individual in appreciation of a significant and innovative contribution in general community service to address a particular community welfare need in the Chinese community.

Jack Wong Sue Award for Voluntary Community Service Beyond the Chinese Community

This award will be presented to an individual or organisation from within the Chinese community for exceptional community service in the wider Australian community.

Quong Tart Lifetime Achievement Award in Community Service

This award honours an individual who has provided outstanding volunteer service over an extended period of time.

Young Chinese Volunteer

This award recognises the valuable role of young volunteers; it will be made for distinguished voluntary community service undertaken by a young person (under 25 years of age).
