CHINESE NEW YEAR
Message from the Minister for Citizenship and Communities
I am delighted to wish all members of the Australian Chinese community in New South Wales a happy, peaceful and prosperous Chinese New Year.
In 2012 we celebrate the Year of the Dragon – one of the mightiest and significant signs of the Chinese Zodiac. For many of us this brings the opportunity to reflect on the year that has past and to consider the new challenges and opportunities that 2012 will bring.
We are very fortunate in NSW to have the opportunity to participate in our respective faiths and celebrate our different cultural and religious holidays. The spectacular Chinese New Year celebrations that occur all across the State provide the opportunity for people from all walks of life to share in and learn more about Chinese customs and traditions.
I certainly look forward to the opportunity to join many of you over the weeks ahead and to enjoying the wonderful company, entertainment, food and music that Chinese New Year celebrations always entail.
The Chinese New Year is also a time to share with our families, friends and neighbours. Together we can renew our community connections and make plans for the future.
Importantly, as each year passes, we strengthen and grow our friendship with the Australian Chinese community and we are further reminded of the pivotal contribution you make to the social and economic dynamism of our State.
